The Leland Police Department Training Section is operated under the command of Sergeant Belmonte. It is the responsibility of the Training Section to ensure the training and development needs of every Officer, both auxiliary and sworn members, of the agency.
This component of the agency maintains a record of all department members training and ensures compliance with the training requirements of the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board. Furthermore, this section assumes the duties of acclimating new members to their duties, administering the Field Training program, and providing or facilitating specialized advanced training as officer’s progress through their careers.
Maintenance training, such as firearms qualifications, Control and Arrest Tactics, and legal updates are coordinated through this section which works closely with local mobile training units and other training venues. Use of force incident analysis, product research, and participation in the formulation of policy and procedure are also duties shared by this section.
It is the philosophy of the Training Section that a trained Officer is an effective Officer, and thereby trained Officers are able to provide the highest level of service and professionalism to the community which deserves nothing less.
